The Ultimate Hand Held Device

iPod is a class of portable digital audio players designed and marketed by Apple Computer. There are different models of the iPod, but the upper ends are those that come with a hard drive. There is one with a 20GB hard drive and another one with a 60GB hard drive. The 20GB model stores about 5,000 songs, while the 60GB, about 15,000 songs. Recently these models have been upgraded to also store photos. The 60GB model can store 25,000 photos.

Is it me or what? I don’t get it. Maybe people who own an iPod can answer these questions. Do you really intend to store 15,000 songs on your iPod? How long will it take to compile this many number of songs? Has anyone really taken the time to store 25,000 photos on their iPod? When you store photos, what do you do with them? With songs, at least you can listen to them all day. But with photos, do you plan to look at them all day too?

I think the iPod is but a fad or more appropriately a status symbol among the well-to-do. It's main function as an MP3 player will be shortlived. One could enjoy hours of listening to it, but I bet you, after a few weeks of listening to the same collection of songs, you’ld want throw up.

The other problem I have with an iPod or similar device is that it’s an extra thing you carry with you. If you already have a cell phone with you, carrying another small device, no matter how small makes it one too many.

Oo nga meron na ngayon cell phone with MP3 playback capability, but I think that is not enough. Ang gusto ko gumawa sila ng hand-held device that integrates at least the following everyday-used devices :

Cell phone/video phone

MP3 Player

Digital camera

AM/FM Radio

Sound recorder/player

USB file transfer device for your PC

Walkie-talkie (nice to have, but can be optional)

TV and Video player – a bigger screen will allow one to watch TV programs or play movies. Another optional feature. Baka maging masyadong mahal, kasi lalagyan pa ng TV tuner. But if the device already has a color screen, I can’t see why it can’t easily be used to play video clips or movies. Using ordinary RCA cables you can then connect it to a regular TV or computer to watch video.

Universal remote control for your TV/DVD/VCR/Stereo.

I’m sure integrating the above devices into one is very possible. I even think it’s quite easy. It’ll be like a Swiss army knife for cell phones. Ano kayang itatawag? Swiss-Army phone? No, I have a better suggestion. Perhaps "MMP" as in Multi-Media Phone (hindi metro manila police). Or simply “The Phone” (because it will be the ultimate phone of all phones).

  • i have a 4th gen 20gb ipod... user friendly at madaling mag-navigate sa menu ng ipod compared to other mp3 players... hundreds of cd compilation ang maii-store mong songs so imagine di mo na kelangang magdala ng ibat-ibang cd araw-araw... cool din ung podcasting... u can also use your ipod as a storage device dahil nga hard disk din sya... ang downside lang na nakikita ko eh ung battery life nya...

Sa umpisa lang parang naks galing meron ako nito and then you put it aside after a while. Sawa na eh or looking for better or upgraded models.

    jon,
isang iPod user ka pala. so how long ago have you had your iPod? ginagamit mo ba everyday? or after a while napagsawaan mo na rin? i have a feeling kasi na madali siyang mapagsawaan. am i correct?

    bluegreen,
you have a point na di ko naisip. masakit nga naman sa tenga kung parating me nakapasak na earphone.

    neo,

    kadyo,

  • ku, i have it for over a year... halos araw ko sya nagagamit papasok at pauwi sa work... last month apple implemented podcasting in their i-tunes software... podcasting is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s)... automatic ang download nya so updated lagi ang mga podcasts ng ipod ko...

depende sa tao kung mapapagsawaan agad... "one man's meat may be another man's poison" as the cliche goes...

  • Mayroon akong nakita na item - digicamcorder, digi still camera, digi voice recorder, mp3 palyer, video camera, SD/MMC card reader - all in one. A vere small item - wallet size - Shaira (Singapore) ata ang tatak, mayroon din "mustek". About 10-15T pesos.

I was planning to buy a digital video camera, kaya lang mahal, so when I saw this, I am considering of buying this instead. What do you think?

    Mayroon ba diyan?

  • jon,
sabagay nga depende siguro sa tao. kaya ko kasi natanong kasi meron akong mumurahing mp3 player na 512mb also has FM radio. i can put around 250 songs (if WMA format). One week ko lang ginamit, then nagsawa na akong pinakikinggan yung mga songs na naka-store. so ngayon, i just use the FM radio.

    bogs,

  • yup...ganon nga yan. i think it's just another marketing strategy. useful nga sya kung talagang mahilig kang makinig pero magsasawa ka rin sa paulit ulit na kanta. they always come up with something to sell, it's just another fad. tingnan mo, may lalabas ulit na mas magandang device jan o...hehe

  • Hehe..parang the ONE sa Matrix. Di ko rin alam kung weird ako or what pero ako na lang yata ang walang iPod. I guess, there are more important things that I could spend $200 on that that. Parang cellphone din nga yan. Sadly, most people (lalo na sa Pinas ngayon) would rather spend tons of money on the latest cellphone that saving for a house or a car which is more important.
